July 2021: A Voluntary No Anchor Zone (VNAZ) has been put in place in Jennycliff Bay, Plymouth Sound, to protect a newly planted seagrass meadow through a partnership project between Plymouth City Council, the Royal Yachting Association, Ocean Conservation Trust, Marine Conservation Society, and Natural England.
Please see the project website for more info https://saveourseabed.co.uk/
The VNAZ has buoy markers in place showing the area. A flier with information for local and visiting boat owners about the VNAZ, why it has been put in place, and ensuring safe access to anchorages, has been issued.
Voluntary No-Anchor Zones are intended to help boaters make an informed choice about where to anchor. Safety is paramount and the zone is not intended to limit safe anchorage when needed. However, during smooth sailing, we ask boaters to respect the Voluntary No-Anchor Zone and explore safe alternative anchorages nearby and be part of this wildlife restoration programme.
