Transforming the Port of Nigg into offshore renewables superhub

As part of the Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport (ICFGF) consortium, Global Energy Group’s Port of Nigg facility was awarded Green Freeport status by the UK and Scottish Governments in 2023, creating a unique value proposition for North Sea energy developments. The Port of Nigg has an ambitious vision to take a leading role in the industrialisation of floating offshore wind to help meet the UK’s Net Zero and Energy Security targets. This transformation is built upon 5 strategic growth enablers – Land Development, Manufacturing, Fabrication, Assembly and Operations and Maintenance. In alignment with these areas, the Port of Nigg has undergone a significant transformation. The construction of the new East Quay in 2022 now enables the Port of Nigg to service multiple large scale energy sector projects simultaneously. At 225m long, 50m wide, and with deep water quayside capacity to over 1,200m, it is now one of the UK’s largest deepwater quaysides. It also ensures the port facility has the required infrastructure in place to accommodate the demands for floating offshore wind sector opportunities.
