Industrial Action

16 August 2022: Unite have announced strike action at the Port of Liverpool. The sector as a whole remains resilient and we have seen container ports and others handle increased trade volatility and unexpected disruption in recent years. Alternative options are available to traders and we remain confident that there will be no lasting or major impacts on supply chains as things stand. We are working with industry to monitor developments..

August 2022: Unite the Union have announced a strike at the Port of Felixstowe in August.

We hope that industrial action can be avoided wherever possible and that ports and unions can come to agreements.

The UK has an extremely competitive ports sector and there has been significant investment in new container infrastructure in recent years. There is therefore capacity available to handle additional volumes if that becomes necessary. We do not currently anticipate this having a prolonged impact on UK supply chains.

The UK ports industry has demonstrated its resilience in the face of various challenges during the course of the pandemic and the resulting fallout which has affected the global supply chain.
