Peterhead's Ambitious Targets

Peterhead’s 2020 vision sets out ambitious environment targets to reduce energy usage and waste. This will include efforts to reduce the Port’s carbon footprint through energy saving and carbon offsetting.

Peterhead is the biggest fishing port in the UK and the Port plans to audit the Fish Market’s water supply, effluent and usage in conjunction with Zero Waste Scotland. The Port plans to reduce water usage by 18% in 2020, saving 5,000 cubic metres of water through a water minimisation programme.

The Port is also targetting a reduction in effluent by 18%. LED lighting has reduced the Port’s carbon footprint by 5 tonnes per year already. Solar power has reduced 50 tonnes of CO2e in 2019 and the Port has plans to make further savings in 2020. The Port is also part of the European EcoPorts network and supports a cycle to work scheme for employees to help reduce transport emissions.
