Poole Harbour Commissioners

We are one of the largest Trust Ports in the UK with approximately 1.25 million tons of cargo and around 400,000 passengers per annum across more than 5,000 commercial shipping movements within the harbour. Poole Harbour is also the largest natural harbour in Europe, providing a diverse variety of habitats which form a complex natural environment which is home to a wide range of animal and plant species, many of which are of international importance. This valuable natural resource has to be balanced with careful management of the commercial, fishing and leisure activities that are crucial to the livelihoods of many local residents and the wider regional economy. The harbour area is also home to the several thousand leisure craft, a fishing fleet, Jenkins Marine, the RNLI’s training college and all weather lifeboat factory as well as a range of military activity.
