We are pleased to announce that Generation Logistics, the government-backed careers initiative for the logistics sector, has been officially launched today. The BPA is one of the trade association partners, representing the entirety of the UK ports industry. Feel free to share this message with your partners and stakeholders.
Generation Logistics has a hub here which hopes to make it easier for people to kick start their career in the industry. We are joined by others representing the wider maritime, logistics, road haulage, freight forwarder, chemicals and warehousing industries. We have adapted our ‘Careers in UK Ports: Get Involved’ guide to be a resource for the campaign, although this is a live document which members of our HR & Employment Group are currently reviewing to keep up to date.
The new campaign aims to bring the industry together, challenge outdated perceptions, and pave the way for a new and diverse workforce. It is offering an online hub full of resources, learning materials and job openings. There were also some opportunities to sponsor.
Alongside the launch, it was highlighted that research has found that 90% of the UK population has never considered a career in logistics, despite it holding 4% of the UK’s job market. The campaign has suggested that the supply chain sector is experiencing a widespread skills shortage and a 100% increase in vacancies year on year.
