Poole Harbour Commissioners supported the installation of 45 concrete artificial rockpools on the seawall at Sandbanks, Poole Harbour to provide suitable habitat for marine life on the seawall. After 12 months the seawall with artificial rockpools supported 16 more species that the seawall alone including lots of lower shore species such as fish, sea squirts and anemones that have not been recorded on the seawall.
The research was part of an EU funded Interreg Channel Manche programme called “MARINEFF” and will continue to be monitored by researchers from Bournemouth University until 2023.
