Following Theresa May’s closing speech at the Conservative Party Conference today, the British Ports Association’s Policy Manager Mark Simmonds called for greater attention on transport and planning.
He said:
“After a week dominated by political intrigue and Brexit speculation, we urge ministers to now focus on the job of supporting growth and the economy.
95% of UK trade goes through British ports and it is vital for the prosperity of this country that goods continue to flow seamlessly across our borders.
That means investment in infrastructure and connectivity and removing barriers to development and trade.
We are calling for a thorough review of planning policy to create a development-friendly regime.
.
Mark attended the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester this week and participated in a number of fringe events with relevance to the ports and logistics industries.
He was also present at the Labour Party Conference last week, will be attending the SNP gathering in Glasgow next week as well as following the developments at all the party conferences this year.
