British Ports Association Awards now open for nominations!

We are delighted to announce that the first ever British Ports Association Awards are now open for nominations!

The British Ports Association always strives to champion those that set the highest standards in the UK ports industry. As such, we are delighted to announce that applications for the first ever British Ports Association Awards are now open!

The Awards are open to apply from all ports. Applications will be independently judged from a diverse group of industry leaders, with the winners announced at the British Ports Association Gala Dinner on 6 October, as a part of the BPA Conference.

The British Ports Association Awards will be given to those that have gone above and beyond in three different areas. The three categories are:

Port Sustainability Award

The BPA Port Sustainability Award will be awarded to one port that has made major steps to become more sustainable and worked to reduce its carbon footprint. To ensure a level playing field among applicants, applicants will not be assessed based on total emissions reduced, but more on the pace of change, concrete action, and whether there is a full embrace of sustainability across all port activities.

The judges will be looking for applications that show success across the following areas:

  • Vision and strategic direction of the port’s sustainability practices
  • Initiatives aligned with the wider goal of the UK reaching net zero emissions by 2050
  • The tangible benefits of investments/projects/initiatives in creating a more sustainable port
  • Includes good qualitative and quantitative evidence

  • Innovative ways the port has positively impacted its community, its staff, or the wider ports industry
  • Efforts to encourage change in a particular area/cause and/or concrete steps to address a particular issue
  • Includes good qualitative and quantitative evidence
