Aggregate Industries Strategy to become nature-positive by 2030

Materials supplier Aggregate Industries UK (AIUK) published its Building progress for a sustainability future strategy in 2024 outlining its plans to become nature-positive by 2030. Following the entry into force of the Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) regime, which requires developers to deliver 10% BNG on certain projects, Aggregate Industries recognised its responsibility to respond to the nature crisis as a business within the extractive industry. Together with its plans to establish a biodiversity indicator reporting system (Birs), a biodiversity baseline roadmap, and an AIUK Wildlife Fund, the strategy further outlines how it will ensure that it has biodiversity plans and dedicated places for nature across all 200 of its sites. This includes the Glensanda biodiversity action plan (BAP) aiming to protect and support Priority Species found on the Glensanda Estate which received a Biodiversity Benchmark Award in recognition of good land management improvement and performance from the Wildlife Trusts.
