Welcome to the British Ports Association

The British Ports Association exists to speak for UK ports.

BPA members are located throughout the United Kingdom, and are from all levels of the port industry. This allows the Association to consult with a wide range of interests, and to set an agenda for the ports industry with clear policy targets.

South West Ports – ‘Gateways for Growth’ document

BPA Annual Review

The BPA Annual Review 2008-09 was presented to members at the Association’s AGM on Tuesday 31 March in London. The Review summarises the BPA’s recent activities across the range of sectors within the ports industry. The Review can be found here and if you would like hard copy please contact us.

ESPO Environmental Review

Our partners at the European Sea Ports Organization have produced an environmental questionnaire: “ESPO Environmental Review” for the EcoPorts initiative. The results are invaluable – they will provide both an analysis of the state of play in the UK and we will also have the opportunity to compare performance with other EU member states. Marine and Coastal Access Bill

The Government’s Marine and Coastal Access Bill was announced in the 2008 Queen’s Speech and is currently being considered in the House of Lords. The Bill, which is a substantially sized piece of legislation, proposes to introduce a new marine planning system, establish a Marine Management Organisation (MMO) and streamline the marine and fisheries licensing systems. It will also link up a long-distance public footpath around the English coast.

2009 BPA Annual Conference – Scarborough
