Welcome to the British Ports Association

The British Ports Association speaks for UK ports.

BPA members are located throughout the United Kingdom and we represent all types and sizes of ports. This allows the Association to consult with a wide range of interests, and to set an inclusive agenda for all port ownership types and markets.

BPA AGM

The Association’s 2010 Annual General Meeting and lunch takes place at The Drapers Hall, in the City of London on 23 March 2010. Invitations have been sent out to members but for any further details please contact us.

National Ports Policy Statement for ports

The government’s consultation on its draft National Policy Statement for ports is now closed and the BPA has responded. The document is very much focused on planning and the way in which both the Infrastructure Planning Commission and the Marine Management Organisation will handle consents. Details of our response can be found here.

The Statement only applies to England and Wales, however the forecasts are for the UK as a whole and would therefore have a bearing on developments throughout the country. Embedded in the planning process is an acceptance that considerable long term expansion of port capacity is needed. The ports Statement was published at the same time as the policy statement for energy infrastructure.

The Commons Transport Select Committee has also been scrutinising the proposals and the BPA was called to evidence to their inquiry in Januray.

BPA Annual Conference

The 2010 BPA Conference will be hosted by Tor Bay Harbours in Torquay on 6 and 7 October. The conference programme and booking details will be circulated in the summer but to register your interest please contact us.

Scarborough Borough Council which manages the ports of Scarborough and Whitby hosted last year’s BPA Conference. The presentation slides used by speakers at the Conference is available to BPA members by logging in and navigating to the Conference section of the Website.
