Welcome to the British Ports Association
The British Ports Association speaks for UK ports.
BPA members are located throughout the United Kingdom and we represent all types and sizes of ports. This allows the Association to consult with a wide range of interests, and to set an inclusive agenda for all port ownership types and markets.
BPA Annual Conference 2010
The 2010 BPA Conference will be hosted by Tor Bay Harbours in Torquay on 6 and 7 October. The conference is a unique opportunity which brings the UK ports industry together every year and the BPA arranges a full range of activities and a partners programme to ensure delegates get the most out of the event. Booking forms and further details can be found here.
A Blueprint for Ports Policy – new BPA document launched
At the BPA’s 2010 AGM the Association’s Chairman Jim Stewart launched its new strategy paper; A Blueprint for Ports Policy. The document sets out how the ports industry would like to engage with a future government and the areas that the BPA believes require focus. If you would like any further details or to request a hard copy please contact us.
National Ports Policy Statement for ports
The government’s consultation on its draft National Policy Statement for ports is now closed and the BPA has responded. The document is very much focused on planning and the way in which both the Infrastructure Planning Commission and the Marine Management Organisation will handle consents. Details of our response can be found here.
The Statement only applies to England and Wales, however the forecasts are for the UK as a whole and would therefore have a bearing on developments throughout the country. Embedded in the planning process is an acceptance that considerable long term expansion of port capacity is needed. The ports Statement was published at the same time as the policy statement for energy infrastructure.
The Commons Transport Select Committee also scrutinised the proposals and the BPA was called to evidence to their inquiry earlier this year
