Why you should join

The Association provides two essential services. The first is the chance to be directly involved in policy formulation with other members of the industry and in discussion with decision makers throughout the government. The domestic ports agenda has increased substantially over the past few years with major pieces of legislation in the pipeline.

The other service is the provision of up to date specialist information on the range of issues which affect you, from planning to navigational safety.

In addition, the BPA represents a network of ports able to exchange information on best practice and to provide advice and support.

Another major benefit of membership is the possibility of taking part in a tailor made port insurance scheme designed by Willis Ltd. Below are details of the scheme which is exclusive to members.

An Insurance Scheme Exclusively for Members of the British Ports Association

This is a dedicated insurance scheme exclusively for the benefit of the Membership of the BPA.

The Scheme has been designed by Willis Limited following discussions with and information provided by the BPA. Willis Limited is one of the Worlds foremost and largest Insurance Brokers.

The Scheme insurer is the Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance plc, one of the UK’s leading insurance companies.

The Scheme is not compulsory. It is entirely elective and is available to any BPA member who wishes to obtain a quotation. One major benefit to BPA Members is the Scheme Premium Volume Discount which takes the form of a premium rebate paid to each Member. The amount of this rebate increasing as more Members join.

Quotations will be based upon the individual profile of risks for each Member. Each individual Member will be considered independently and will not be directly affected by the losses or otherwise of any of the other Members.

Coverage is comprehensive and the policy wording has been designed specifically for the Members of the BPA.

Coverages include:
Third Party Liability
Property Damage
Business Interruption
Equipment Damage
Hull Insurance
In addition, the Scheme insurer is also able to offer other coverages such as motor, employer’s liability, etc.

Members have full flexibility of choice as to which covers to buy although insurers will not cover Property Damage in isolation.

Limits are readily available up to £ 10,000,000 under the Scheme but, if required, higher limits can be provided.

Quotations will be provided at your request and after completion of the Scheme Questionnaire and will compete with any existing insurances that you may have.

A quotation under the Scheme and access to it is solely through Willis Limited. They will be delighted to assist you either through their network of offices throughout the UK or their UK Port Centre in Ipswich. Initial contact should be made with Willis Limited to the following people:
