Joining the BPA

The BPA is a membership association which represents the interests of the ports industry to and all organisations and indivduals who influence the sector. There currently are 90 port and harbour authority members located throughout the UK. The BPA is an inclusive organisation, representing ports of all sizes and ownership types.

We also have a number of Associate Members. These include engineering companies, environmental consultancies, insurance specialists, accountants, finance companies and law firms. These make our network complete. Membership for ports is calculated on a turnover basis meaning that members costs are based on their ability to pay. Annual Associate Membership is £936 + Vat. Application forms for Full Port Authority Membership (which includes costs details) and Associate Member have further details and if you require additional information about joining the Association please contact us on 020 7260 1780 or e-mail us.

All members, whether full or Associate, receive a monthly update which is a comprehensive review of the main issues facing the industry, alerting members to major changes.

Government Contacts

The BPA is well linked with various Government Departments and the European Commission in Brussels. We are regularly consulted on legislation and policy and we involve our members in these discussions. We are a membership driven organisation and act as the voice for ports and harbours of all size and ownership type.

Structure

Our structure is simple; we have an elected Council who decide on the strategy and funding. This is supported by a number of Working Groups specialising in, for example, the environment, marine, and European issues.

Events

We hold a high profile AGM and lunch in London in the Spring of each year. We also hold a popular Autumn annual conference which is an unrivalled opportunity to rub shoulders with other members of the industry. They are the only occasions when representatives from ports across the UK can come together.

Activity

The ports sector is changing rapidly. New legislation creates new demands on the industry. New safety, planning, regulatory, environmental and other legislative requirements are coming thick and fast.
